TIKI-MAN, MYTH, MERRYMAKER

“Polynesians worshipped their ancestors as gods, sculpting them into idols of wood and stone. In some of their myths, a demigod named Tiki appeared comparable to the Bible’s Adam, this half mortal/half deity was said to be the first man and possessed human faults and a sense of humor.  This eventually inspired the islanders – namely those in the Marquesas and New Zealand – to call all carvings depicting the human form Tikis.” - From Sven A. Kirsten’s book TIKI POP

History of the Tiki

Tiki totems originate from the
Polynesian Islands and are a
Cornerstone of the Hawaiian culture.
Tikis are often placed on the
Boundaries of sacred, significant sites for protection.
They are spiritual sculptures using large, scary mouths
And intimidating expressions to
Frighten away evil spirits.
They almost seem to let loose a silent tribal roar!
